Vision: Building waste-conscious Asian communities that proactively contribute to the Zero Waste Auckland 2040, through community collaboration and with cultural responsiveness.
Purpose: Empowering Auckland’s Asian communities to adopt sustainable waste behaviours and contribute to waste prevention, minimisation and management.
1. Waste-Wise Parenting Programme
Culturally tailored programmes for Chinese, Korean, and Japanese families to reduce parenting-related waste and promote sustainable alternatives:
• Parenting waste reduction workshops (cloth nappies, food waste, sustainable choices)
• Practical demonstrations and education sessions
• Individual follow-up support for participating families
2. Community Education on the Auckland Council Waste Management System
Community-led education to empower the general waste minimisation and management knowledge and behavioural change:
• Develop and support the Eco-Ambassadors network
• Deliver community workshops and promotional activities
• Promote waste-wise practices through ethnic educational videos and social media
• Promote zero-waste practices through cultural and faith networks
• Provide targeted support to sustain behavioural change
3. Food Scraps Services and Recycling
Community-based education and Multi-dwelling Pilot in CNSST Kotuku House:
• Community Educational Programmes through workshops and media channels
• Public event awareness promotion and education
• Individualised household engagement and facilitation in use
• Waste-audit and data tracking system
• Community Model Development and successful story sharing
• Innovative recycling art creation activity
4. Love Food Hate Waste and Composting Campaign
Work with council and ethnic community partners to empower positive community behavioural change through educational programmes, including TV Shows and articles, educational workshops, public events, eco-ambassadors, and an ethnic community network.
5. Collaboration and Partnership
Collaborate with Auckland Council and Chinese/Korean community partners to support Asian communities in managing and minimising waste.
• Joint street clean-up with other partners
• Work with other eco partnerships in the Recycling Week to raise community awareness of waste-wise practices by providing information, skills and knowledge.
• Attending Waste-wise skills development, share workshops and meetings
• Register for the CNSST eco-friendly event at EcoFest 2026 to share with partners and communities.

7. Resource Development and Sharing
Translated vital public information into action by creating accessible, bilingual resources and videos that connect our diverse communities to essential services.
• Providing tailored language and cultural responsiveness of the Auckland general waste management system information and resources to the community
• Bilingual Healthy Babies, Healthy Futures workbook
• Bilingual food scraps services guidelines flyers
• Multilingual food scraps services guideline videos for Chinese, Korean and Japanese communities
8. Solar Energy Use and Green Design at CNSST Kotuku House and Eco-Park
By integrating solar energy and innovative green design, such as sustainable rainwater tanks and wastewater systems, CNSST Kotuku House and Eco-park serve as a living example of environmental stewardship and community education.
