Programme Description

Chinese Cultural Competency Training Scheme

This programme aims to enhance communication between Kiwi front-line community workers, who are non-native Chinese speakers, and Chinese migrants. Thus, community workers such as police officers, paramedics and health workers can provide services to Chinese migrants after utilizing their linguistic and cultural competency.

Programme Content

This course covers basic elements of Chinese language and cultural experience such as Chinese Kungfu and making dumplings.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the training, learners will be able to demonstrate basic understanding of Chinese language and culture. Learners will be able to:

  • Identify and use Chinese Pinyin for basic daily communication.
  • Understand familiar words and basic phrases for familiar everyday situations.
  • Participate in simple spoken discourse with familiar people on familiar and personal topics.
  • Understand basic facts about China and Chinese culture.
  • Perform some basic Chinese cultural activities such as Martial Arts and Chinese culinary arts.
